What is and is not be funded by the ARTicipate Project Grant?
The ARTicipate Project Grant only funds Ottawa-based artists, arts organizations or collectives who are presenting or exhibiting art projects in the Shenkman Arts Centre. For a full list of eligible and ineligible projects and applicants, please see the program guidelines.
How much will be given out in total from the ARTicipate Grant Program?
Funds distributed for the ARTicipate Grant Program are from the interest generated from the ARTicipate Endowment Fund. The total amount granted is dependant on the amount available from the interest earned by the Endowment Fund annually.
Does all of the income-interest generated from the ARTicipate Endowment Fund go towards the ARTicipate Grant Program?
The funds are distributed in the following proportions:
- 25% will be disbursed to the arts community through the ARTicipate Project Grant
- 10% to each of the five Shenkman Arts Partners through the ARTicipate Resident Arts Partner Grant
- 5% is re-invested in the fund to ensure its continued growth
- 20% towards Fund management.
Who decides who receives a grant?
A jury is formed to review the grant applications. The jury evaluates the eligible grant applications and makes decisions on who receives a grant. Jury members are representatives of the arts community. They roles as assessors are confidential.
How much will the grants be?
Grants will be of various amounts, with a maximum grant of $2,000 to ensure as many artists and arts organizations as possible can benefit from the ARTicipate Endowment Fund. Grants are for a maximum of 50% of the project budget costs.
What is the late acceptance policy?
Applications will not be accepted after the deadline date. Completed applications must be received by ARTicipate staff by 4 pm on the deadline date or postmarked with that date. Please see the grant guidelines for more information.
What kind of support material should I include?
Choose support material that demonstrates your artistic accomplishments. Also, select material that is related to your project. Examples of acceptable formats are included in the application. If your work is performance based, include videos, if possible. Please see the grant guidelines for more information.
Do applicants have to be presenting or exhibiting in the Shenkman Arts Centre? How is space booked in the Centre?
Yes applicants must be presenting or exhibiting their arts project in the Shenkman Arts Centre to be eligible for a grant. To rent any of the Shenkman Arts Centre spaces contact the Shenkman Arts Centre Booking Clerk. For more information, please visit the Shenkman web site.
