201617 Season of ARTicipate Grant Projects Revealed

Ottawa, Ontario – AOE Arts Council is proud to launch the 2016-17 season of artistic projects made possible through ARTicipate Endowment Fund Grants Program. This year, a total of $20,975 in funding was awarded to 10 grant projects that will enable local artists, groups of artists and arts organisations to present in professional spaces at the Shenkman Arts Centre.

The ARTicipate Endowment Fund offers performing and visual artists and arts groups unique opportunities for creative exploration and showcasing their work to the public and their peers. Getting funding is not an easy task for artists, which is why the Arts Council created the ARTicipate Endowment Fund, to support artists in their pursuit to further develop or create new original work.

"The $2000 we receive from the ARTicipate grant will have a great impact on our project. Initially we would like to pay each artist (creators and director/dramaturge) a fee of $300 each upfront, with the rest of the fee being paid from box office sales," says Jake William Smith of Rapscallion Diversion. "A large portion of it (funding) will be put towards our performance space and rehearsal time at the Shenkman Arts Centre."

Recipients use the funding to help secure rehearsal time and space, add to their creative team, promote their show or offset production costs.

“With an Articipate grant, I will have my very first solo exhibition – a milestone that has been decades in the making. I will use the funds to prepare and frame paintings and photographs for formal exhibition, and print special postcards to advertise the show,” says Chinh Nguyen, visual and media arts artist.

Ottawa residents will be able to experience a variety of artistic performances and exhibits at the Shenkman Arts Centre thanks to this Fund. The 2016-17 Season of ARTicipate Grants projects will delight spectators with dance, music, theatre, visual art and media arts.
